Wanderings
Raised in a small, rural town, a wanderlust was nurtured in me from an early age through my mother. She always had items in her trunk for travel, just in case the spirit moved her to take a spontaneous road trip. A Sterno stove, Jiffy Pop and some blankets served us on more than one occasion. Being a single mother, we were not exactly flush growing up. Nonetheless, when I was 17 she allowed me to travel to Germany as an exchange student. We had to really scrimp and save to make it happen and it felt analogous to the Sterno stove trips, but just a little further away. The life lesson I learned is that regardless of your income, that travel was an attainable goal. I might not be rich in cash, but I could be rich in experience. My wanderlust continues to this day. Photography is my best friend on my adventures and helps me relive the beautiful landscapes and cultures I’ve been lucky enough to see. I’m up to 16 countries, but plan to add to Wanderings throughout my lifetime.
