Markings
I’m a trained graphic designer and professor. So you can understand that I really dig the formal design elements of shape, line, texture, value and color. This collection of textural photographs includes many subjects that are nothing more than markings on concrete, but still, that is not all they contain. Cropped to perfect squares, I like to think they are studies in composition that could as easily be executed in other art media and function the same. It so happens these are all “straight” photographs with some light digital editing for tone and color. They are taken out of context of their setting, but not so out of context to lose all recognition, just enough so as to de-emphasize it. Embrace the ambiguity, celebrate the texture.
